Reza Pahlavi — The Position Shift

Core idea: The exiled crown prince’s stance on foreign military intervention did not shift once but repeatedly — from “red line” anti-intervention, to explicit denial that he was calling for it, to cheering a US strike as “humanitarian intervention,” to later disclaiming that he was ever pro-war. The trajectory tracks the casualty narrative closely.

The Four Stages

  1. April 2024 — “red line.” Pahlavi called military action against Iran a “red line.”
  2. January 2026 — explicit denial. In an Iran International interview, asked directly about foreign military action, he said: “I am not calling for any foreign military attack or intervention… the natural army in place are the people of Iran.”
  3. February 2026 — the reversal. He told Reuters that US military intervention “could save lives,” and after the strike (28 February) called it a “humanitarian intervention” whose target was “the Islamic Republic… not the great nation of Iran,” urging Iranians to “finish the job in this final battle.”
  4. Afterward — denial again. He has since distanced himself, disclaiming that he was ever pro-war.

Each stage is on the record. The reversal to pro-intervention coincides with the peak of the 36,500 casualty narrative — the emotional climate in which intervention could be reframed as humanitarian.

Connection to the Influence Operation

Pahlavi is also the figure the documented Israeli influence operation had been promoting since before the protests — fake personas and AI avatars boosting his image and the monarchist “Javid Shah” frame. His rise and his usefulness to a foreign-intervention case were, to a documented degree, manufactured rather than purely organic.
