European Union
Caught between US demands and its own survival instincts. In the price-hierarchy, Europe occupies the “knowledge economy” tier - generating significant value through engineering and IP but fatally dependent on external energy.
Vulnerabilities
- No domestic energy. Dependent on Russian gas (now severed) and Middle Eastern oil (via strait-of-hormuz-chokepoint)
- Demographic collapse. Aging populations with insufficient replacement
- NATO dependency. Military capacity outsourced to the US
- De-industrialization. Nordstream destruction accelerated the loss of competitive manufacturing (especially Germany)
Predicted Fate
- NATO collapses as the US retreats from global commitments
- Energy crisis from Strait of Hormuz closure devastates economies
- Massive migration from the Global South overwhelms social systems
- De-industrialization continues without cheap Russian energy
- Eventually fragments - Germany may partner with Russia, southern Europe faces worst outcomes
