Operation Epic Fury

The name given to the US military campaign to decapitate Iranian leadership. In Jiang’s framework, it’s the trigger event that sets the entire predicted cascade in motion.

The Plan vs Reality

The Plan: A 4-day operation using aerial bombardment and decapitation strikes to assassinate Iranian leaders (including Khamenei) and force quick surrender. Based on the assumption that removing leadership collapses resistance.

The Reality (per Jiang):

  • Iran operates on Shia martyrdom theology (islamic-eschatology). Assassinating leaders doesn’t break resolve - it strengthens it
  • The assassination triggers unified global Jihad, not surrender
  • Iran retaliates by targeting GCC infrastructure and closing the strait-of-hormuz-chokepoint
  • The “4-day operation” becomes a years-long quagmire

The Anti-Powell Doctrine

The Substack “Countdown to Iran” notes that the operation violates every principle of the Powell Doctrine:

  • No clear interest (beyond eschatological)
  • No limited objectives (regime change is unlimited)
  • No overwhelming force (against a prepared asymmetric opponent)
  • No public support (70% opposed)

This total inversion of rational military strategy signals, in Jiang’s view, that the war’s purpose is not military victory. It’s eschatological fulfillment.
